E-recruitment is a term we are hearing more frequently touted by software providers and industry experts, but what on earth does it mean? It is simply the process of using a combination of web-based technology to take over the entirety of the recruitment process.
This includes attracting, sourcing, testing, selecting, recruiting, and onboarding all using online tech. Therefore e-recruitment can also be known as online recruitment, which may make more sense.
What tech does it involve?
At present, there are a variety of bits of kit that get used across the recruitment process, including:
Sourcing Candidates used to be a case of waiting for walk-ins or a phone call, now candidates can be found via job adverts posted across the web. As well as Job Board CV Databases, Social Media platforms and brand websites.
Candidate Management is mainly done through an applicant tracking system that keeps track of Candidate profiles, interviews, communications, and placements.
Interviews are often conducted online using video conferencing platforms.
Skills-based testing is no longer a pen and paper affair, with intelligent testing software available that enable candidates to complete it any place (with an internet connection) and any time.
Website tracking code – called Cookies – is found across the web. Recruitment websites are no exception. Cookies enable a business to track what pages you are looking at on their website and get an insight into what you are looking for.
On the horizon are sophisticated chat bots and CV editors, but these are contingent on further advances in technology.
Does e-recruitment work?
E-recruitment is the new norm. Like almost every industry on the planet, recruitment has embraced the accessibility and advancements in technology across their operations. The purpose of technology in recruitment is to automate otherwise time-consuming processes and not to replace human recruiters.
