Some 67 per cent of small and medium-sized enterprises have struggled to secure the best people for their business, thus facing a shortage of suitable skilled and experienced professionals which can restrict their growth.* With the competition to hire QUALITY PEOPLE at its peak, we wanted to share our top tips for how to get it right.
Plan Your Time (and Others)
Time is of the essence – when do you need this person to start? We often hear, “yesterday”, “ASAP”, “NOW”. If this is the case, then commit to the recruitment and interview process so you don’t miss the top talent out there.
Make time in your diary for interviews, think about who else needs to be involved in the process so that you can plan accordingly. There is no point having a first interview two weeks after you have selected who you want to see – the good candidates will be gone!
Engage a Reputable Agency to Recruit the Right Talent for your Role and Business
A good agency will know, already have met and pre-interviewed their candidates. They will be clear on what they want and what stage they are at with their job search, along with what their availability is and notice period too. Think we are the right agency to handle your role, get in touch.
First Impressions Count
Book the meeting room! Be prepared with measurable questions at interview. Discuss salary and benefits so that the candidate can see the total package from the off.
Show them the office environment and who they will be working with.
Fast Feedback
Plan this in from the start. Know that you can get back to candidates because the job has been approved, the salary signed off and the decisions can be made.
Always give positive and constructive feedback to all applicants but also ask for their feedback. In a recent REC survey, 80% candidates said they were not asked for feedback.
A Problem Shared
Check with other team members/departments to see if they are hiring or whether there are other needs in your business. If you see more than one great person, you may want to hire them too!
Have the edge on the competition If you can’t hire all the good people straight away make sure you build a solid relationship with your agency so that they are proactively looking for the people who they know will add value to your business.
