Today we continue Eva’s interview series, Women in Property. This week Eva interviews our newest member of the team here at Select, Vicki Collen, Vicki joined Select last week to work alongside Eva within the property division, focusing her expertise on the Norfolk region.
E: Vicki, it’s so lovely to have you on the team, can you tell us bit about your background and how you got into the world of property?
V: I was selling my house and got on well with the Agent, and after talking I discovered they had a Saturday position available; it was then that my career in property began
E: Can you talk us through your journey?
V: I started working on Saturdays carrying out viewings and registering applicants looking for properties, then I started working as a sales negotiator, progressing to senior sales negotiator, valuer, and then finally assistant manager. I have also worked in a lettings role.
E: What advice would you give women wanting to become property valuers?
V: My best advice would be to make sure that you know the market, area, do your research, give the best customer service you can, always be yourself and believe in yourself!
E: What is the strangest thing you ever encountered on a viewing?
V: It was when I was carrying out a lettings inspection, I was doing my routine checks, making sure all was as okay, and testing fire alarms, when I got to the main bedroom I discovered that the tenants girlfriend was in bed, which was slightly awkward!
