'New Year, New You'.... Nope.
You don't need to change who you are to make progress or achieve your goals in life! Whether you lose weight, reduce your stress levels or change jobs, you are still the same person and that should be celebrated! If you think 2022 is time for some changes, you don’t need to set a New Year's resolution to accomplish your goal!
Whatever it is that you want to achieve in 2022, whether it is to lose weight, save more money or find a new job, it is much more logical to approach it by being methodical, setting realistic targets and producing a plan to hit those targets.
Planning Ahead
So, New Year’s resolutions aside, our advice to you if you have an annual goal is to pre-plan manageable steps. For example, if you are unhappy in your current job and want to move:
Write a list of everything in that role that you really dislike.
Mark all of the things in the list that you cannot change and think about whether you can live with them
If you can’t live with these things, then it is definitely time to move! So it’s time to start planning. Add another column to the list to show what you want from a new job
Once you know what it is that you want, you can start to update and refine your CV. Add in new qualifications, experiences, and insights into your character
Proof-read your CV or, even better, get someone else to proof-read it for you.
Get in touch with your local Select office. Talk to them about what you want to achieve from moving jobs, and your recruitment consultant may have some suggestions of potential roles/industries.
Start practicing your interview technique. Ask a friend to quiz you to get you feeling confident in yourself.
Iron your best outfit – even if you are interviewing over video.
These are the types of milestones that will help you get to your desired end point. Give yourself reasonable time frames to complete your tasks and you will feel accomplished every time you take a step towards your end goal, no matter what it is.
2022 is Your Year
So, dust the glitter off, pack away the tinsel and shake the New Year’s grogginess off. It’s down to you to make 2022 the best year you can.
Don’t bother with unachievable resolutions, set yourself up for success by really thinking about what steps will have a long-lasting, positive impact on your life.
